Grade RR–12 across the group
Three schools. One journey. Which fits your child?
Grade 8 is the step into high school, and it's worth getting right. The question isn't whether a Wesbury school, but which one:
- Wesbury College of Science — for learners who love building, experimenting and solving. A dedicated science college in Port Shepstone.
- Port Shepstone International High School — a well-established independent high school in the heart of Port Shepstone.
- Hibberdene Academy — one school community from Grade RR all the way through, right in Hibberdene.

Why families choose the science focus
Do you live with a child who takes the toaster apart "to see how it works"? Who asks dinner-table questions you can't answer? If maths comes easier than handwriting, they'll recognise themselves at Wesbury College of Science. Science here isn't one subject on the timetable — it shapes how the whole day is taught, and it builds a strong foundation for matric maths and science.
Grade 8 at the College
Learners in Grade 8 follow the CAPS curriculum with a science-rich approach. From Grade 10 they choose a named stream:
| Stream | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Pure Science | Mathematics, Physical Science, Agricultural Sciences, Life Sciences — the university gateway for medicine, engineering and BSc fields |
| General Science | Business Studies, Life Sciences, Economics, Maths Lit — science stays alive, with a real-world mix |
| Business Science | Accounting, Business Studies, Geography or Agricultural Sciences, Maths or Maths Lit — the flexible commerce stream |
Grade 8 is common ground — the stream choice only arrives in Grade 10, and every stream carries the same fee.

Hibberdene Academy — join the journey in Grade 8
One school, from the first day to high school
Some families want one school community for the whole journey. At Hibberdene Academy, your child can start in Grade RR and move up through the grades surrounded by teachers who've known them for years. From Grade 8, learners continue their high school years at the Academy; for Matric they move across to Grade 12 at Wesbury College of Science or Port Shepstone International High School.
Joining in Grade 8
Hibberdene Academy is a small school on its Hibberdene campus — close to home for families between Port Shepstone and the upper South Coast.

How to apply for Grade 8 — step by step
Step 1: Book a campus tour. Start with a visit. A campus tour shows you the school on a normal day — and your Grade 6 or 7 learner is the best judge of whether it fits.
Step 2: Submit your application. Applications for 2027 are open now at all three schools — there's no closing date. Apply via the admissions page. The application fee is R600 (non-refundable) per application — no payment is collected through the online form; our admissions team will guide you.
Step 3: Offer and enrolment. If a place is offered, our team walks you through enrolment and the first-day details.
Applying is straightforward, and the admissions team guides families through each step.
Key dates for the 2027 Grade 8 intake
Applications are open now — and there's no closing date.
That's deliberate — independent schools set their own admissions calendar, and we'd rather you visit on a day that suits your family and apply when you're ready. (Public schools follow the KZN Department of Education's window — see KZN DoE admissions for that process.)
Places in each grade are limited, and the families who apply early have the best choice of class. Offers are made in order of completed applications.
